    • Digital Arts Festival
      The digital arts festival is a Boys and Girls Club program that gives youth an opportunity to be creative with technology. The 2007/2008 festival has already begun. The Photo Illustration and the Music Festival is already done and ready for judging. However, there is still time to participate in the many upcoming festivals such as Movie Making, Web Design, and Graphic Design. For rules and more information click here.
       

    • Photo Festival Regional Winner
      Out of two entries who have won the local festival for the Photo portion, one of them has won the Regional Festival. Her name is Krista Kendall. Good luck to her in the National Level. If she wins the National Festival she will have an opportunity to go to Minneapolis, Minnesota come summer. To see her picture click here.

    • The Local Music Festival
      During Nov. 6-9, 2007, the local festival will be held for the Music portion of the Digital Arts Festival. We will announce the winners of the local festival on Nov. 10, 2007. The winners will then succeed to the regional level. You may listen to the 10 entries by clicking here.

    • Earth day cleanup
      Do you like staying clean? Then why not help out the earth by keeping it fresh too? The Youth Center will be working with local Japanese Teens to do their part by cleaning up the Sagami River. A bus will depart from the Zama Youth Center at 1100 and return at 1600. We will have a barbecue and refreshments after the clean-up. For more information call 263-4500.
       

    • 11 May-. CZAR Awards~ Just like the academy awards! Help support the youth at the youth center and watch their videos played at the CCC on May 11th starting at 1630. After the videos are shown, the award ceremony will start. 7 trophies will be given out to the best actor and actresses, best director, best video, Best supporting actor and actresses and best screenwriters along with certificates to all participants.
       

    • Alice 3D animation  On every Thursday in the month of May at 1530, learn how to make 3d animation using the program Alice 3d. Participants will start off learning the basics of this program and then learn how to add voice, music and other cool stuff to create their video. There will be a contest on May 31st for the best 3d animated video created by Alice 3d.
       

    • The 4th Annual 4-H Fair
      will be held Saturday April 28th from 1500 - 1800. This event is free and open to the public. Come out and enjoy fun and exciting features such as the Art and Crafts display, pimp up your computer show, and 4-H photo contest and our wacky Iron Chef's Cook Off (Pasta) (3 Parent/Child teams will compete). The winners of the Iron's Chef's cook off will receive this awesome 4-h trophy. The fair is open to youth ages 0-18. There will be door prizes, 4-H trivia questions with prizes, music provided by our very own DJ's. Grand prize (Digital Camera) will be drawn at 1800. So come out and check out what we have to
      offer and enjoy a few hours at the youth center.
       

    • The Youth Volunteer Recognition Ceremony
      will be held Thursday April 19th from 1700 - 1800. All youth who volunteered at the youth center this past year will be recognized for their efforts to help make the Zama Youth Center the #1 Youth Center in the Army.     • BGCA Digital Arts Regional Winner
      Congratulations to Alysha Jones for winning the regional BGCA Digital Arts Festival in Web Design. She will now try to win the national level. This is the 3rd BGCA contest this year that a Camp Zama youth won the regional level of a Digital Arts Festival.     • Spring Break Trip to Okinawa
      The Zama Youth Center will be sponsoring a four day Spring break trip to Okinawa from 09-12 April. The trip is open up to the first 12 registered teens in grades 9th-12th.     • 2007 4-H Communication Fair.
      Hawaii's 4-h program has invited members of Camp Zama's youth center to participate in the 2007 communication fair. Calling all youth ages 5 to 19 to participate in the 13th Annual 4-H Communications Fair sponsored by the Oahu County 4-H Program. The Fair features speech and demonstration contests as well as presentations from the prejudged photography, exhibit, poster, creative writing, Video and PowerPoint entries.     • Torch Club
      Camp Zama youth center is looking for motivated middle school teens to join our community service based club. Torch Club gives middle school teens the opportunity to make changes in their community and have their voice heard. Torch Club meets on the 2nd of 4th week Monday of each month. Members come together and discuss different issues and upcoming events. If you are interested in join Torch Club or just want to know a little more about it

    • Canyoning Trip
      Do you like adventure, open spaces, and waterfalls? If so, come register for a Canyoning Trip offered by the Youth center on 13 April. All Youth Center members ages 13-18 can participate. It is $75 for the experience of a lifetime. Sign up at Central Registration. At least 10 people must sign up by 3 April 2007 with maximum limit of 18.     • Movie Mondays in April
      In recognition of the Month of the Military Child the Youth Center will be showing great movies such as SGT Bilko, Renaissance Man, In the Army Now and Major Payne. The movies will be shown every Monday from 1500-1700 in April.
       

    • Parent and youth potluck picnic
      The Zama Youth Center will also be hosting the first ever parent/ youth potluck picnic in front of the Zama Youth Center 6 April from 1130-1400. We will play games such as volleyball, horseshoes and much more all in celebration of the Month of the Military Child. Come out and make this event be a blast!     • Cherry Blossom Fun Run
      Sign ups for the Cherry Blossom Fun Run begins March 1st until April 3rd .The first 75 kids to sign up will automatically receive a Fun Run T-shirt. Come out and have a good time running 3k. The event takes place on April 7th at 0830.
       

    • The Youth Volunteer Recognition Ceremony

      is a place where kids come together for a journey they will
      never forget. Each child learns about astronauts and space travel, and also experiences something even more important: developing bonds of friendship. This is a microcosm of the life of military children. They travel, they

    • Easter Egg Hunt
      Easter egg hunt will be Sunday, April 1.  Please come participated in the CYS Easter egg which will be held at the youth center starting at 2pm. Over 5000, yes I said 5,000 eggs will be up for grabs.  There will be other fun activities for youth and adults.  Somebunny will make an appearance. 
       

    • Youth and Teen Talent Show
      Can you sing, dance, play an instrument?  If so the Youth and Teen Talent Show is for you.  The talent show is open to all SOFA sponsored youth at Zama and Atsugi.  Participant age is 6 to 18.  You must enter by March 23rd by signing up on the website, emailing

The bus will depart from the Zama Youth Center at 1730 and SHA commissary at 1800. Who knows, you may be the next Youth and Teen Idol!!!
       

    • The National Keystone Conference
      is this week, March 15th through the 18th, in Minneapolis Minnesota.  The Camp Zama Youth Center’s Keystone Club  sent 13 of their members to the conference.  These members represent Camp Zama and were selected to have the opportunity to experience a leadership forum where they will engage and socialize with peers, explore relevant issues and develop skills to enhance their efforts in their Boys and Girls Club and communities.  We will have more information on their trip when they come back.

    • New Robotics Program
      The new robotics program will start on Feb 2nd. Youth Center members who are in the 6th and 12th grades, meet every Friday from 1630 - 1730. The tech lab has a new program (Robolab) that they will be using. Members will be learning new skills weekly and testing their knowledge by having weekly challenges. You may join this club at anytime. 
       

    • New Computers
      Thanks to Joshua and Kyoko, our new computers are now up and running. Stop by and check out the new computers. We now have 20 in wide screen monitors for the 14 computers (3.0 Ghz with 2 Gb Ram memory) and two 24 inch wide screen monitors for the multi-media computer (Quad 3.73 mhz with 1 TB storage and 3 Gb Ram)
       

    • STRUT Class
      Our next STRUT (STudents Recycling Used Technology) will be Feb 9-10. Youth will receive a computer, take each part out and learn what it does, put the computer back together, trouble shoot it and install Linux OS. They then get to take it home with them. The Tech club will be teaching the class along with adult volunteers.
       

    • Microscope in Tech Lab
      We now have a microscope in the tech lab that is hooked up to the computer so you can take a picture of the specimen or even a video. It is located at computer #1.
       

    • Under Construction
      Starting February 7th, 2007, the Youth Center’s main entrance will be blocked for construction. Therefore, no body will be allowed to walk thru the front entrance of the Youth Center. Our new temporally entrance will be the back door of the Youth Center, so please sign in there. During the two months of construction, the bathrooms will be unavailable, so there will be potable bathrooms located in the back of the facility as well. The youth center would like to say sorry for any inconveniences.

    • Photography Program
      An 8 Week class is being offered in the tech lab on Tuesdays from 1530 – 1630 starting Feb 6th and is available to all 6 – 12 graders. Learn how to take great photos for yourself, contest or even becoming one of our photographers at the youth center. We will use and supply you with the 4-H photography Handbook and we will also supply you with cameras.       The tech lab will be replacing it's computers this month. We are looking at starting the process next week. We will have a super computer with dual 3.73 mhz processors, 1 TB storage and two 24 in. Monitors. This computer will help youth produce videos and 3d animation.

    • BGCA Digital Arts Festival in Movie Making.
      Youth will create a 1 - 3 min video and enter the contest. Theme is "In the News" Check with Mr. Ervin for audio clips and backdrops you can use along with a blue screen. Youth can also create a movie script. Last year we had a local youth who won the national contest and won a free trip to Atlanta to attend the movie fest. Submit your videos/scripts to Mr. Ervin by Jan 24th. Judging is on Jan 25th at 1800.

      Camp Zama Academy Review Awards will be held on May 11th at the CCC. Just like the academy awards! Youth videos will be shown on the big screen and then the award ceremony follows. 6 trophies will be given out to the best actor and actresses, best director, best video, Best supporting actress and actresses and best screenwrite.       Is on Friday, Dec 15th. from 1700 - 2200. Not on Saturday! Cost is $2. The first 20 six graders coming to the gala that tells Mr. Ervin what is happening on Thursday, Dec 21st from 1630 - 2000 will receive a prize. Good only this Gala.

      To stay up with technology, we are replacing our computers soon. So if you thought we had fast awesome computers already, just wait till the new ones come in. We also have a super computer with dual processor for video editing and 3d animation. If you have anything on the computers now, please stop by and save it on a disk before it gets erased.

      Join us on our very own news show. Club members in grades 6 - 12 will meet on Wednesdays from 1530 – 1800. They will learn how to film, edit and produce their own news show which will be shown on our website and on the MWR TV channel. We are looking for youth anchors, reporters, camera persons, editors, and producers. Youth may join in at any time. Volunteers are needed to help make this program a success.     • Robotics Program Club
      Robotics Program Club Members, who are in the 6th and 12th grades, meet every Friday from 1400 - 1700. The participants co-operate with adult mentors in creating robots according to their own interest. The participants start by using pre-existing instructions for building their robot, followed by a programming and investigation session that defines the blueprints for the robot's performance. As their expertise increases, youth get involved with designing the robot using a Lego Computer Aided Design (CAD) application--creating detailed building instructions from the CAD design, and completing the programming and investigative tasks that are necessary for its performance.       If you are interested in attending the 3 day weight lifting clinic, then come to the youth center on October 16th. This program is only for high school students-9th~12th grade and will be from 1500-1600. Mr. Deric will tell you about the theory on how each exercise hits a particular muscle group and he will explain how each exercise is performed.     • Smash Drugs Volleyball
      In celebration of Red Ribbon week, the youth center along with youth sports will be having a Smash Drugs Volleyball tournament to show that you can have a good time without drugs through fitness and fun.  There will also be a Cool Police Drug Dog demonstration and a short anti-drug message. Come to the Youth Center for Smash Drugs Volleyball on October 13th, 2006 from 2000-midnight! All youth co-ed ages 9-18 (and any parents who wants to come play) are invited!

    Students Recycling Used Technology - StRUT is a program  where students take donated computers and computer components and upgrade them.       Each participating Club member will create an original poster that depicts the Boys & Girls Club of the future. Members will create poster designs that imagine a Boys & Girls Club in the year 2106. Members should not include their names anywhere in the artwork and keep local Club identification as minimal as possible. Artwork should focus on the graphic design of visual elements, not on text.     • Last two Ski Trips 02/16/06
      The last ski trips of the season will be March 11 to Echo Valley departing at 0500 and returning at 2100. March 25 to Hakuba 47 departing at 0400 and returning at 2100. Each trip will cost $45 and will include lunch, lift tickets, and rental equipment. The trips are almost sold out and you must sign up at least 10 days prior to trip to get rental equipment at no cost.
       

    • Youth to Youth Cultural Exchange 02/16/06
      March 12 we will be having our youth cultural exchange at the Zama Youth Center at 1500-1800. We will be playing dodgeball with Japanese teens and there will be pizza and drinks after the event. This is the last cultural exchange for the school year.

      We need your used computers to support the STRUT Program. We accept any used computers and monitors.
      Students Recycling Used Technology - StRUT is a program  where students take donated computers and computer components and upgrade them.     • Digital Arts Movie Festival 01/18/06
      Hurry, deadline is soon here. January 27: BGCA'S BGCA Digital Arts Movie Festival. All registered youth center members can compete in either the screenplay writing or the movie making portion of the festival.
                Guidelines to creating your Screenplay:
        Each participating Club member will write an original screenplay that focuses on life in a Boys & Girls Club today.  Screenplays must be at least five, but no more than 15, pages typed in Microsoft Word. Click here for more info.

    • Oakland Cheerleaders coming 1/18/06
      That's right, the Oakland Cheerleaders will be here at the youth center on Superbowl Monday from 1600 - 1730. They will do a 15 minute show followed by a cheerleading clinic and finally a photo shoot and autograph session. Open to the public. Click here for more info.

    • Washington Redskins Cheerleaders 11/30/05
      will be visiting Camp Zama.  They will be holding a cheer clinic, 7 Dec, at the Zama Youth Center from 1630 to 1730.  Introductions will start at 1620.  Please bring cheer appropriate clothes if you plan to participate in the clinic.  After the clinic they will be heading over to Yano Fitness Center to do a show which starts at 1830.  Doors will open at Yano at 1800.  Following the show will be an autograph session for about 25 minutes.

      DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR OLD COMPUTERS!!!! Give them to us and we will recycle them in our next STRUT class. Students Recycling Used Technology. Our next class will be Sep 23-25. Each youth participating will enter a drawing for computer to take apart, learn what each part does, put it back together, program and trouble shoot it. Best part about it, it's theirs to take home (If wanted) Any youth that did not receive a computer will be teamed up with some to participate in the program.   • Boston Video Crew 5/23/05
    4 youth from Camp Zama Tech team are in Boston to participate in the CYFAR conference. They are teaching video and robotics classes, doing a 90 minute "Life as a teen in a foreign country" and creating a grand finale video of the whole conference.
